Why should I use P&J Dust Extraction to test my Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Plant?

P&J Dust Extraction Ltd are UKAS accredited for LEV Inspection & Examination services.

No other dust or fume extraction manufacturer has been accredited for LEV testing.

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)

UKAS is recognised by the UK Government as the sole UK national accreditation body responsible for assessing and accrediting the competence of organisations in the fields of inspection, measurement, testing and the certification of systems, products and personnel.

The CoSHH Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) 2002 makes you responsible for choosing a competent LEV test contractor and specifically recommends that you select LEV testing contractors who fully comply with CoSHH regulations. It also states that the person to whom any work is sub-contracted must be fully qualified to do it and identifies the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) as the relevant UK professional body, and UKAS RG4 as the competence criteria.

  • P&J is a corporate member of BOHS. Our engineers are also BOHS qualified.

  • P&J test staff, their supervisors & the Department Manager have appropriate specialist training & qualifications.

  • The Director responsible for LEV Test & Inspection department is a professional Occupational Hygienist and Health and Safety specialist with 25+ years of experience.

The P&J test engineer has a unique range of skills both as an experienced LEV dust/fume extraction engineer and also trained in appropriate areas of Occupational Hygiene for Local Exhaust Ventilation - all independently verified by UKAS.

Protect Your Business Against Litigation

Litigation is becoming more commonplace. The consequences can be dramatic. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in court on an LEV inspection-related matter, the use of a UKAS accredited inspection body is a powerful demonstration that you have exercised all due dilligence in the selection and appointment of a highly competent inspection body.

Any insurance claims may be turned down if you negligently select an inappropriate LEV testing contarctor. The best way to prove you have selected a suitable LEV Test contractor is to ensure they are UKAS accredited for LEV inspections.

Most dust/fume extraction companies and many insurance companies have no qualified LEV inspection staff and are not covered by professional indemnity insurance. P&J have full professional indemnity insurance cover.

The Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Test

P&J's LEV Report complies with the requirements of CoSHH Regulations 2002 Regulation 9, HSG54, BS EN45004 & ISO/ICE 17020 & UKAS RG4. Our staff have all the knowledge, training, and expertise in examination methods and techniques to meet the stringent UKAS criteria.

Some of the LEV tests performed:

  • Check the condition of the filters

  • Measure rotational speed of the motor with a tachometer

  • Record the velocity pressure and static pressure of all test points

  • Record the pressure drop across the filters

  • Measure ambient dust level

  • Measure percentage of contaminent in the returned air

  • Measure the decibel readings 2 metres from each machine

  • Measure the dust level reading in the breathing zone of operators

  • Perform a smoke test (fume extraction)

  • Face velocity test (spray booth)

After the test has been completed, the data will be analysed by our senior engineer. A comprehensive and detailed report will then be issued. If any remedial or repair work is required to restore the LEV to its original operating specification this will be highlighted in the report.

P&J guarantee to keep a copy of the test report for at least 5 years after the test has been completed.
